Kery James / Jean-Pierre Baro
Humanist poet, rapper, creator of languages, Kery James temporarily leaves rap to throw himself into theatre and conceive his first play. He lays down his story during the final of a speech contest between two students preparing for the bar exam. Soulaymaan, interpreted by Kery James himself, comes from the suburbs and Yann, played by Yannik Landrein, comes from the nicer neighbourhoods. For the former, the State is guilty of the state of the suburbs, while the latter claims that the citizens are responsible for its state. À vif awakens the political and radical theatre, invigorates the art of contesting and the engaging speech, and gives the flaming verb its relevance back.
